GEORGIA ACCESS TO MEDICATION  ABORTION
(GAMA)

SisterLove, Inc. has partnered with Emory’s Center for Reproductive Health Research in the Southeast (RISE) to conduct mixed methods research on medication abortion in Georgia. Access to safe abortion is declining in the U.S. (especially in the Southeast), and Black, Latinx, and/or lower income women experience disproportionate barriers to abortion care coupled with increased risk for unintended pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and maternal mortality. Medication abortion has the potential to improve access and outcomes for marginalized and high-risk women. Through this project, the research team plans to investigate the barriers and facilitators for people who may become pregnant and potentially use medication abortion. The team will first conduct in-depth qualitative interviews and/or focus groups with abortion providers, community based organizations, and Black and Latinx women. Those results will be used to develop an online survey about Black and Latinx women's medication abortion perceptions, intentions, and use. Findings will be disseminated through web-based psychoeducational videos, academic manuscripts, clinical guidelines, and a training program for community-based advocates.
